Jake Shorrock is Apprentice of the Year 2017

In an exceptionally close-run competition, Jake Shorrock of TClarke North West has won the 2017 TClarke - Apprentice of the Year Award. Group MD Mike Crowder highlighted the quality of the competition.

We have had a tremendous entry nationwide this year and so the three finalists, Jake Shorrock, Electrical Apprentice, TClarke North West; Kyle Rodger, Plumbing H&V Apprentice, TClarke Scotland and George Stickings, Electrical Apprentice, London, have all done very well to win through to the final round of interviews in London. The judging was incredibly close, and ultimately, Jake just won through and our congratulations go to him.

The finalists’ focus on technology was outstanding

When we talk about TClarke’s ambitions for growth into new sectors and technologies, we are making strong statements of intent about how we want TClarke to remain a technology leader. What has been particularly clear here today is that our three finalists have strong ideas concerning the adoption of technology - in lots of different ways.

Drones, Apps and Solar Power harvesting on towers

We’ve been talking about increasing the use of drones onsite, the intelligent use of our app technology not just to promote safety, but to improve work flows and collaborations onsite and on the potential to harvest solar power on tower blocks.

It has been a hugely impressive experience, listening to articulate young engineers on both the mechanical and electrical side, talking about the opportunities they see for technology to transform what we do.

The ‘TClarke way’ of doing things is a promise of quality and experience - but we must also emphasise that innovation and rapid exploitation of new technologies and new ways of working has been at the heart of our brand since we began. Today we heard from three young people with the enthusiasm and capability to take this business forward.
