National Constructing Excellence Award for Nightingale Hospital Exeter

1/2/22: Nightingale Hospital Exeter has won the ‘Building Project of the Year’ at the Constructing Excellence National Awards 2021. Rob Faro reports:

TClarke was part of a team including Principal Supply Chain Partner BAM, Royal Devon and Exeter Hospital, Services Design Solutions, Stride Treglown, Ward Williams Associates, Arup and Hoare Lea.  Nightingale Hospital Exeter was an infrastructure project of significant scale including 1.4 MW Cooling, 2500m Ductwork, 60,000 litre Oxygen Plant, 6000 litre Duplex Medical Air Plant, 4000 litre Triplex Medical Vacuum Plant, 2no 1MvA Generators, 2no 2500A LV Distribution Systems, 2no 1.6MvA private 11KV transformers, 31 Air Handling Units, 1.5 MW Heating, 10km Pipework, 60km cable and 350 ACBs/MCCBs all delivered by our team in just 57 days.

This award meant a lot to everyone in our team and across all those partners who worked to build this amazing hospital so quickly and to such a high standard. For many of those involved in a project that was delivered at the height of the pandemic, this represented a genuine career highlight.

Andy Witnall of BAM spoke for many people in his acceptance speech when he said: “You’ve no idea what this award means.  We didn’t do it for the money, we did it to save lives.  We’d do it all again, given the opportunity. It remains the proudest moment in my entire construction career.”

As far as TClarke in the South West goes, I do think it is worth mentioning that in the recent period we have won quite a few awards:

  • IHEEM Healthcare Estates Award – Highly Commended – Refurbishment Project of the Year – Nightingale Hospital Exeter
  • IHEEM Healthcare Estates Award – Finalist – Supplier of the Year – TClarke
  • IHEEM Healthcare Estates Award – Finalist – Apprentice of the Year – Polly Every TClarke
  • Michelmores Property Awards – Winner – Building of the Year – The Box, Plymouth
  • Michelmores Property Awards – Winner – Leisure and Tourism Project of the Year – The Box, Plymouth

  • Building Better Healthcare Awards – Highly Commended – Best Covid-19 Project – Nightingale Hospital Exeter
  • ICE South West Awards – Winner – Collaboration of the Year Award – Nightingale Hospital Exeter
  • Morgan Sindall Supply Chain Awards – Winner – Social Value/Enterprise Award – TClarke

Now, although awards aren’t by any means everything, I do think that this is a good time to say that the work that our teams are doing, with so many partners, has been of such a consistently high quality that we have moved the TClarke reputation forward across the region and across sectors. We have good people, we have skills and we have a collaborative approach. Increasingly, these things are recognised as delivering value.
