TClarke wins Luton Hospital Emergency Department

2/11/21: TClarke has been awarded the engineering services package for the extension and refurbishment of Luton and Dunstable University Hospital’s Emergency Department. Working with long term partner Willmott Dixon, this is another substantial healthcare project win. Anton Malia, Director UK South reports.

This is another healthcare job where we are delivering within a busy live environment, the existing Emergency Department will remain operational throughout our work which has been meticulously planned in collaboration with the entire project team to ensure that there is no impact on the staff and patients attending the hospital. For our teams there is a real sense of commitment and collaboration and of course we are highly experienced in working in these conditions with all the challenges and need for extra care and consideration, day by day.

The engineering job itself has challenges too. Our electrical engineering works include breaking into the hospital’s dedicated HV ring and the associated programming and management of that so it doesn’t affect hospital operations. It then also involves the installation of new HV Infrastructure and the creation of New Main and A&E Receptions and a new CT Scanning Department. We will also be installing new LED lighting across all areas.

On the mechanical engineering side, we are installing new central ventilation and environmental control systems, a new chilled water system and roof-packaged plant room. Also, as with the electrical side, we are breaking into existing heating, water services and medical gases and new distribution to new department layout. Finally, we are also working on the technology side, on the integration of the new services into the hospital building and energy management system.

Across the engineering disciplines we are using our experience in Modern Methods of Construction, Technology and Specialist Diagnostic Systems to benefit the project.

Nationwide, TClarke offers the resource of expert healthcare teams, backed by a full range of technical expertise. We know the specialist equipment, the systems, the requirements of installation and planning for a live healthcare environment and so we bring a lot of confidence and reassurance to jobs like this. Here we are bringing together TClarke teams from across the UK South region to best serve the needs of our client. These are important projects for local communities, we have the skills and we take a lot of pride in what we deliver with our partners and clients.
