TClarke achieves CO2nstruct Zero Business Champion Status

18/10/22: CO2nstruct Zero brings together businesses from across the sector to deliver the change needed to reduce carbon use in construction.

The sector is responsible for around 43% of UK emissions, and 36% globally. Without our collective engagement and participation, we will not meet the UK’s Net Zero targets. For our sector, there are three key over-arching areas: Transport, Buildings and Construction Activity. Based on these areas, the CLC has determined nine priorities to focus our efforts both as an industry and as individual businesses to maximise the impact we can make.

TClarke have committed to the Construction Leadership Council’s campaign to help drive carbon out of the industry focusing our efforts, firstly, on the below priorities:

  • Fleet Management – Accelerating the shift of the construction workforce to zero emission vehicles and onsite plant
  • Modern Methods of Construction – Maximising use of Modern Methods of Construction and improved onsite logistics, reducing waste and transport to sites
  • Implementing Carbon Measurement – Implementing carbon measurement, to support our construction projects in making quantifiable decisions to remove carbon

The construction industry can’t stop climate change altogether, but it can have a significant impact on turning the tide. Shifting to renewable energy sources, reducing travel, adopting low carbon alternatives, and actively supporting new technologies – we all have a role to play. The sum of our efforts will be our turning point.

Group CEO Mark Lawrence comments:

“TClarke has committed resources to play a central part to ensure that the adoption of Net Zero policies and practices can work within our organisation and in the areas where we live and work; we have committed to not be standing on the side lines and let others do the hard work. We would like to thank Build UK for all their support.

“We are fortunate to be engaged in large, complex, and challenging projects and with many partners with a principal responsibility for the selection of technical, design and procurement options which have a direct impact on the carbon involved in the whole lifecycle of a building. What we achieve on these projects can set the standard across the industry.

“We recognise our responsibility to influence and support proactive and positive decarbonisation strategies by sharing our knowledge and determination to move forward. We see the role of CO2nstruct Zero Business Champion as an important one for TClarke to play – that’s entirely consistent with our long term approach to sustainability goals.”
