TClarke secures Building Services Package for £290m Women and Children’s Hospital for Cornwall

TClarke has been selected to work with Principal Contractor BAM who have secured the overall contract for this £290m major new hospital. Enabling works are now underway and will continue into 2024 and 2025, with the provision of a new Pathology building and the relocation of Cardiology and Pharmacy services to make way for the new building.

Building works on the main 24,500m2 facility, which will bring together the hospital’s maternity, neo natal, paediatric, obstetrics and gynaecology services, replacing the existing 1960’s Princess Alexandra Maternity Wing are due to start in 2025. The Women and Children’s Hospital is part of the Government’s New Hospital Programme, which is focused on delivering 48 new hospitals across England by 2030.

The project will adopt Modern Methods of Construction, with environmental features throughout to support the NHS’s carbon Net Zero ambitions. Smart digital innovations and enhancements are also planned for the scheme – such as creating sensory and interactive play areas, systems to connect families and carers remotely in the delivery of care, and enhancements to the management of patient call systems to provide a quieter, calmer environment on the wards.

Rob Faro, Director TClarke UK South, identifies this as a major healthcare win for the Group. “It is no secret that TClarke has been working to develop our presence in Healthcare over recent years and this win shows we are very much on track. These projects fit our growth plans going forward in every way.

“The complexity and challenge involved requires our combination of reliable, high-skill, in-house teams, deep engineering expertise, MMC capability and our pioneering expertise in smart hospitals. And for us as people and as a business, there is enormous pride in delivering excellence on these projects which are so important for the community.”
